Victoria Homewood is a British painter based in Brighton, where she was born and raised. Deeply connected to Sussex, its coastline, architecture and ever-changing light continue to shape her work. A highly observant artist, she finds inspiration in the overlooked corners of the everyday, revealing a quiet beauty in places that often pass unnoticed.

Working primarily in oils, Victoria divides her time between the studio and painting outdoors. Plein air painting remains an important part of her practice, whether working alone or alongside fellow artists, allowing her to respond directly to the shifting light, atmosphere and character of a place. These studies inform her studio paintings, where careful observation is balanced with memory and intuition.

Rather than seeking out obvious or picturesque views. The back of Brighton Station, the working landscape of Shoreham Docks, a quiet window or the expansive coastline at Weymouth all become subjects for exploration. Her paintings capture the subtle qualities of these familiar places, transforming them through light, colour and atmosphere into works that feel both recognisable and quietly unexpected.

Alongside her own painting, Victoria has developed a broad understanding of the art world through years spent working in studios for other artists. This close connection to the making and presentation of paintings has fostered a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, materials and the traditions of oil painting, all of which are reflected in her own practice.

Light plays a central role throughout Victoria's work. Whether painting architecture, interiors or landscape, she is interested in the way light defines space, softens form and alters our perception of the everyday. Her paintings encourage the viewer to slow down and look again, finding atmosphere and beauty in places that might otherwise be overlooked.

Now working from her Brighton studio, Victoria continues to build a body of work rooted in observation and a lifelong connection to the place she calls home. Combining strong draughtsmanship with a sensitive handling of oil paint, her paintings offer a thoughtful and quietly compelling reflection on the landscapes, buildings and spaces that surround us every day.
