Jim Sanders is the creator of Brighton's Spirit House and uses a variety of media to create large scale installations, interiors and immersive environments.

Inspired by Nature, the work is imbued with a powerful significance, referencing a vast range of visual languages and anthropological connections to pull the past into the present and frame the essential questions of existence.

 

Working intuitively with found objects and fabrics, his installations are monumental, often taking the form of altars or shrines, to be used for the transportive purposes of ritual and celebration. Each element brings its unique history and identity, contributing to a strangely potent state of being.

 

Sanders' work is created in an instinctual manner and has often been exhibited under the banner of Brut, Outsider, or Singular Art.

Born in Solihull, West Midlands, Sanders has worked as a full-time artist since 2001, exhibiting widely in the UK, Europe and North America.
