Description
This mask is one of three currently on display in the gallery. This work, titled Mask 2, Bone, has been created on the foundation of a traditional African mask. Using this base, the artist has developed a potent and distinctive piece of his own. It is composed of a variety of animal bones, carefully arranged to form a complex layering of different structures.
 
Sanders works intuitively with found materials, fabric and collage, transporting us to other realms. Drawing on symbology and the occult, he forges his own visual language and forms. His work is a powerful and compelling fusion of materials, in which scale and texture immerse us in his tribal and spiritual world.
