Description
Insular Hiberno-Saxon Lion Head by Parry is a small canvas featuring imagery inspired by, and directly referencing, the Saxon period of our isles. The piece draws on historical artefacts dating from around the 7th century AD — a time of wealth and cultural prosperity among the Saxons. The famous Sutton Hoo discoveries and the remarkable illuminated manuscripts of the period have all informed the visual language from which the artist has drawn.
 
Here, an interwoven lion’s head is depicted against a rich golden background.
