Description
Inspired by the rugged beauty and remarkable light of Belle-Île-en-Mer, this intimate painting forms part of Marine Gentils' latest body of work exploring the landscapes of France's Atlantic coastline. Long admired by artists for its dramatic coastline and ever-changing light, the island has inspired generations of painters.
Painted in richly pigmented acrylic on handmade paper, Marine distils the landscape into a series of simplified forms and harmonious colour relationships.  The work captures an atmosphere, a fleeting memory of light, stillness and the quiet rhythm of the coast.
Small in scale but rich in colour the piece has hand-torn edges, the work is presented in a coloured box frame that beautifully complements the palette.
