Title

Mr Taylor, the Lignum vitae skull

Year

2025

Description

Mr Taylor, the Lignum vitae skull is exactly that: a skull dedicated to the owner of the original lawn bowl from which it has been carved. Lignum vitae is an exceptionally hard and durable timber, the densest wood in common trade — it easily sinks in water. This beautifully carved skull fits perfectly back into the original bowl from which it has been shaped. The jaw is hinged and movable, and the cap of the skull can be removed, held securely in place with magnets.

As with much of the artist’s work, nothing compares to holding it in your hands. This is a truly beautiful piece, demonstrating a remarkable mastery of carving. The skull is a detailed miniature of a real human skull, produced with stunning realism.

If you were seeking a carved representation of a human skull, Knight’s work would be among the finest choices. Known for his exquisite detail and varied use of materials each showcasing his extraordinary carving skills this hardwood piece is not only art, but functional too, capable of holding objects within.
