Amy Douglas

BIOGRAPHY
Amy grew up in Ravenscourt Park, London, UK. A daughter of actor parents, her observational skills and sense of adventure were set very early on. Amy attended Edimburgh Art School and at The Decorative Arts at The City and Guilds of London Art School where she learned gilding, working with gesso and specialist painting, drawing and printmaking. She also attended Camberwell University where she acquired an MA in Printmaking.
Her first commissions came from the then newly opened Shakeaspeare Globe and the English National Opera where she honed her skills in prop-making for a number of years.
Subsequently, Amy travelled extensively through India and Japan. Upon returning to the UK her first child, Zuki, was born. The artist set up her studio in Brighton and started to work in restoration work, being able to apply all her skillsets to smaller size objects.
Amy spent a few years working in conservation studios and carrying out public art commissions. After her second child was born she started to work on Staffordshire figurines, keeping the conservation ethos of causing no damage to an object and often applying highly sophisticated kintsugi techniques. Amy enjoys picking up the oddities of life and collecting quotes from her travels and social interactions, and oftentimes these inspire both her pieces as well as their names.
Douglas’ work has been shown all over the UK and New York, where she regularly exhibits.
